I am determined to complete the November writing challenge this year. For those of you who have never heard of NaNoWriMo, it is a writing event that happens every year during the month of November. The goal is to write 50,000 words during the span of the month or about 1,667 words per day. I attempted last year without success but I am hopeful for this year.

I think it is important to start the process now in October to prepare for the month of writing. Any book ideas or plotlines you have hidden in your head or notes app, it's time to put them on paper.

I myself have been sitting on a book idea for a while and am starting to plot it out to help with November. While I have tried to write a book with no prior plotting work, it is hard to write with no actual idea of where the plot is going or any sort of guide.

I found myself not writing because I was in a mental block and I think that plotting a chapter-by-chapter outline of your book idea can help prevent becoming stuck. I highly encourage you all to plot your books in October to prepare if you plan to participate this November.

I found it works best for me to have a Google Doc (or Word document) table set up with the chapter number and title on one column and the plot points and some details…
